Shopping
Several districts of Barcelona are bubbled with shops full of souvenirs, clothes, fresh produce and other goods. A walk along Gràcia, Plaça del Sol, Plaça Catalunya, La Rambla, Barri Gòtic or many other plazas in the city should give you some very good ideas. There are also several stand-alone markets, some as old as centuries. To name a few, Mercat de La Concepció, established since 1888, has continued to serve the city with arrays of shops laid with every possibly imaginable commodity. On the other hand, Mercat de Sant Antoni is a very famous traditional market in Barcelona which has retained its original architectural setting. Fresh produce, meats, cafes, and stalls selling used books and magazines are available in profusion. Mercat de Sanrià is a popular compact little place that generates an atmosphere of a provincial market. If you are looking for a familiar department store setting, Barcelona also has some of the nation’s best to offer. Close to the Rambla district is the ultra-modern mall El Triangle (opened in 1998), whereas L’Illa is a very popular and super busy shopping center where trendy designer clothes and other well-known shops are huddled together. Another mall to drop by is El Corte Inglés which is a nationwide Spanish department store chain.
